Shannon Converse, certified Zumba instructor, will offer Zumba fitness sessions this fall on Tuesday evenings. Sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sessions will be in the elementary gym. Cost is $5 per session. The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that is easy to do and fun! You just have to move your body and follow the instructor's lead. The instructor advises you bring comfortable workout clothes, shoes, water, and a hand towel.
Adult Wood Working - Rustic Photo Display
MCC Industrial Technology Instructor Matt Sundberg will instruct classroom participants in wood working in order to build their own rustic framed picture display. Participants could make either one large picture framed display or make two small frame displays. Participants will be taught how to use the equipment safely as well as finishing techniques to make a high quality project. The class will be held on April 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cost of the class is $40. Please call Lisa Sillanpaa in the High School Office to register. Registration will be capped at 12 participants.
Lego Robotics - Grades 3 & 4
Computers Teacher Trista Lund and Superintendent Jeffrey Lund will instruct a Robotics Camp for elementary students in grades 3 and 4 on April 27-29 from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the High School Computer Lab. Students will assemble lego robots, learn basic commands and programming, and complete a challenge. A snack will be provided. Registration is limited to 16 participants. Cost will be $20. Registration information will be sent home soon.
Air Powered Rockets
Industrial Technology instructor Matt Sundberg will teach children the basics principles of air pressure and rocketry. The activity is open to students grades 4-8 on May 4-6 from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Students will assemble miniature rockets from kits and experiment with different amounts of air pressure and rocket shape. Students will build their own rockets in groups and when completed will launch their rockets. All materials will be provided with registration. A snack will be provided. Registration is limited to 20 participants. Cost is $15. Registration information will be sent home soon.
AARP Drivers Safety
MCC Community Education is pleased to offer the AARP Driver Safety Program. It is the nation’s first and largest course for drivers age 50 and older. It has helped millions of drivers remain safe on today’s roads. Individuals should pre-register by calling Patty at 874-8805 or by stopping by Newfolden Elementary School. The class is instructed by Jeff Hanson and will be held in the grade 6 elementary classroom. The course will be held on May 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Participants must bring in their Driver’s License.
Open Crafts (Students grade 6 and up; Adults)
MCC Teacher Linda Ueland will host open crafts in the FACs classroom on Thursdays starting May 3 and ending May 15 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students grade 6 and up along with adults can work on sewing projects or other craft activities with the assistance and guidance of Mrs. Ueland. Mrs. Ueland will have a large supply of materials to use to make crafts of your choice. There is no registration fee; however, if a participant chooses a project that needs additional material than provided, participant would need to buy material.
Community Education Soccer
PE Instructor Jessica Bakker will host Community Education Soccer May 18 - 21st for students in grades 3-6 after school from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. Students should ride shuttle to the high school and wait in the main lobby for Mrs. Bakker. The soccer drills will take place on the football field. Students would practice skills from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. and then mix into teams to play a game from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m. each day. Registration is limited to the first 20 students that sign up. Snack will be provided. Cost is $20.
