1. What inspired you to work in education?
I got inspired at my time at University of Montana lecturing and seeing students have their “aha”
moment. Seeing students have that moment of clarity and elation is what inspires me to continue
being an educator.
2. Tell us a little bit about your family (kids, pets, etc.)
My family all live on the northside of Minneapolis in the Blaine/Forest Lake area. I am the only
one this far north.
3. Who has had the greatest impact on your life and why?
My father has definitely had the greatest impact on my life. He was a single dad raising my sister
and I, worked full time, and worked towards his Bachelor’s degree all at the same time.
4. What is the most rewarding part of working at MCC?
Having the opportunity to lead extracurricular activities. The students get to see me in a different
light than being a teacher like showing them how to lift in the weight room.
5. What is one fun fact that students and colleagues might not know about you?
I can solve a 3x3x3 Rubik’s cube in less than a minute and I can solve a 4x4x4 Rubik’s cube in
about 5 minutes.
6. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of school?
I enjoy collecting old vinyl records. My favorite record I own is a 1979 first pressing of The Wall
by Pink Floyd.
7. What is our go-to comfort food or favorite meal?
My favorite meal is a triple layer smashburger and fresh fries.
8. How do you hope to make a difference here at MCC?
I hope to show students that there is more to math, and school in general, than just an answer or
points, it’s about what you are learning along the way to reach that goal.
9. What do you enjoy most about our school community?
I enjoy the fact that it is a community in the old sense of the word. Growing up near the cities I
didn’t even know everyone in my own class let alone other classes. It is much different up here
where it does feel like a community of people and not individuals.
10. What is one piece of wisdom you would like to share?
Live in the moment. It’s not worth worrying about what is going to happen in the future. Be
present in what is happening at any given moment.

Today, area emergency personnel worked together to stage a mock crash scene for MCC students in grades 9–12. The scene simulated a DUI collision between a pickup and a four-door sedan.
Emergency responders used the live exercise to demonstrate the real-life impact of poor decisions. Following the event, they spoke with students about the dangers of drunk driving and encouraged them to consider careers in emergency response.
A special thank you to Tri-County EMS, Newfolden Fire Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and Minnesota State Patrol for leading this powerful learning experience. We also thank MCC Social Worker Laura Underdahl for helping coordinate the event and preparing the student volunteers who took part.
