The 10th graders attended the Northern Valley Career Expo in Grand Forks on Wednesday (10/23). There were sessions on different career opportunities as well as a floor full of local career and college businesses with hands-on options. Everyone was so busy learning we didn’t get too many pictures. Then we stopped at the Viking Diner for lunch before making it back to school.

Congratulations to our September Teacher of the Month - Mr. Thompson What is your position at MCC and how long have you been working here? I teach 5-12 band, and 7-12 choir. This is my 5th year at MCC What is one of your hidden talents? I am a very good cook What is your dream vacation? I’ve been lucky enough to have already gone on many of my bucket list vacations, but one one trip I’ve wanted to do for quite some time is to lodge trek through the Andes to see Machu Picchu If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead? Honestly…I don’t think I’d give up teaching. At least right away. I love my job. BUT…if I did do something it would be full time travel or fine woodworking What is your favorite meal from the cafeteria? Orange Chicken What makes a good day at school? Having great conversations with colleagues and seeing the “aha” moments during rehearsal or lessons If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share? School is about more than learning “things.” You might not need to know the quadratic formula, or the water cycle, or what a quarter note is after you graduate (although some of you may) But the skills you build BY learning those “things” are important: how to listen, how to work in a group, how to make friends, how to BE a good friend, how to show respect to a boss, how to learn and practice new skills. These are skills that will help you get a job, keep a job, be a good spouse, raise good kids (if that’s something you choose to do.) So don’t take these years for granted. You don’t know how important they are until they’re already gone. Also - less serious advice, but I think it’s important. Try to do some traveling in your life! See different places and cultures! It opens your eyes to so many different perspectives What is your favorite memory from when you were in school? I had so many good memories from school - life was so much simpler back then. One of my favorites is the last night of senior year, my whole class (15 of us) camped out at the track at the high school and slept on the pole vault pits. We brought a TV and strung about 5 extension cords to an outlet at the school building and watched a movie. Super fun night. Also, pretty much any memory with my group of friends that were in plays together. We had some great cast parties What is your favorite t.v. show and why? Do watching the Vikings count? Probably not. So The U.S. version of the Office. I love documentary style sitcoms like that, and I think the Office is the GOAT of that genre In which Hogwarts house would you be sorted? I’ve already taken the test - I’m definitely a Ravenclaw Congratulations!
