Congratulations to Kaydence Augustine for being selected to the University of North Dakota Treble honor choir! Kaydence is the first MCC student to make an auditioned honor choir in over a decade. On Wednesday, November 8th, the MCC chapter of the National Honor Society inducted six new members: Halle Baldwin, Emma Nelson, Reagan Mimnaugh, Grady Hockstedler, Nick Lund, and Everett Nelson. Selection into the National Honor Society begins with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students who meet the academic eligibility are given an application to help exemplify the other three pillars of NHS: character, service, and leadership. Upon completion of the applications, a faculty committee reviews the applications to determine if all four pillars of NHS are properly met, and then admission is granted to those applicants. In order to maintain membership, new and current members must continue to exhibit a 3.5 GPA or higher, remain free of any chemical and/or academic violations, be involved in at least one activity or extracurricular at MCC, and complete a minimum of twenty volunteer hours. As a group, the MCC chapter of the NHS also completes service projects such as hosting blood drives, helping the Salvation Army clean up after their annual toy drive, as well as spending time with the area senior citizens in the fall and the spring. Senior members inducted last year include: Kaydence Augustine, Hannah Bjorgaard, Rylie Fredrickson, Brooke Jerome, Rachel Larson, Kari Lauer, Nick Longerbone, and Noah Underdahl. Congratulations to all members on their prestigious achievement!

On Monday, October 23rd, the National Honor Society sponsored a blood drive hosted at the Newfolden Community Center. NHS members checked donors in and senior members Brooke and Rachel were able to donate as well! Special shout-out to Rachel Larson: this was her 3rd donation before graduation so she will be receiving hero chords. Great job, Rachel! With the gracious help of students, staff, and community members, 27 units of blood/blood products and we had 7 first-time donors! Did you know that one pint of blood can help save the lives of 2-3 people? Keep an eye out for more local blood drives in the surrounding area throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who worked, made appointments, donated, provided treats, allowed students to miss class in order to make their appointment, and to the Community Center for hosting! You all are amazing!
