It is a busy morning at the high school construction site. Wells Concrete is here unloading and installing the precast walls for the gym/commons addition. On the east side of the building, H & S Concrete continue work on the classroom addition footings.
Due to bus driver shortage tonight, the Bear Route and Cat Route will be combined. Please be aware some students on these routes will arrive home later than expected due to this change.

MCC High School and Elementary Schools will be open Monday through Thursday the last week of August (August 28-31) to help with you back to school needs. Hours are from 8 am to 3:30 p.m. We'll also be open during the Back to School night Tuesday.
The offices are closed Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4.
Reminder: Welcome Back Open Houses will be held at each school next Wednesday, August 30. Viking and Newfolden Elementary will be from 4:30 to 6:30. MCC High School will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m with 7th grade orientation at 5:30 p.m.

Viking Elementary Construction Progress August 18, 2023:
Construction crews continue work on Viking Elementary. The front entry is really taking shape. Framing up of the walls for the front entry and the music room addition are near completion. Roofing work will begin next week. Concrete curbing, a storm sewer drain, and sidewalk will be installed next week. Kitchen floor was completed yesterday. Tile will be installed for cafeteria and gym office. August 25, kitchen appliances and cabinets will be installed.
We do anticipate a late opening for the school office. The primary reason for delay was the state plan review taking some extra time delaying the start date. We will temporarily utilizing the teacher lunch room for office space for the beginning of the year. Don't worry, school will start on time. The south entrance will be utilized for building access until the front entry can be opened. The entry and front office area is expected to be completed by the end of September but some access to entry and parts of office may come a little earlier. Although there is a delay, staff and our families understand and know the finished areas will be worth the wait.
Friday, August 18 High School Construction Update:
All summer has been busy around the school sites in Newfolden. Construction crews are preparing for pavement in the high school loop, Newfolden Elementary parking lot, and East parking lot of high school. Pavement is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday next week. On the north side of the high school site, footings are being poured for the high school gym and cafeteria addition. Walls are scheduled to start going up September 11. Inside, steel reinforcement of the north classrooms is ongoing. They should finish early next week and then rooms will be put back together.

We added a couple of items to our Back to School Page on our website. It now contains our 2023-2024 Parent-Student Handbook and it also contains our Welcome Back to School Letter.
Missy, Sarah, and Patty are all in the office today preparing mailings out to families. You should get a mailing by Monday next week. It will contain the welcome letter, Free Reduced Lunch form, School Supply List, Bus Routes to help you prepare for school. Kindergarten families will receive their classroom placement as well!
Preschool Families are included in this mailing. We know you are excited! You are welcome and encouraged to come open house night to see the classroom and meet Ms. Amie. Head Start Families will receive welcome information from Head Start.
August 30 is our Back to School Night at all School Buildings.
4:30 to 6:30 at Viking Elementary (PreK-Grade 2) and Newfolden Elementary (Grade 3-6)
5:00 to 7:00 at MCC High School (Grade 7-12) with orientation for grade 7 at 5:30 p.m.
We also encourage you to come and stay for Meet the Freeze at 7:00 p.m.

Position Open - Head Cook, Newfolden Elementary
We are seeking a head cook for Newfolden Elementary School. Position is a full time extended school position eligible for health insurance, paid time off, sick time, clothing allowance, and unemployment in the summer. Preferred applicant has previous cooking experience or previous school cook experience.
Hours are typically 6:00 am to 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Responsible for ordering, state reporting, and leading kitchen staff in preparing breakfast, lunch, and after school program snacks each school day.

The district is seeking bus drivers. If you have available time between 6:00 am and 8:30 am, 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm, or have a flexible schedule to help with extracurriculars we'd love to have you join our team.
District reimburses for licensing and physical cost. District provides and pays for training.
We have options available for half route, full route, or substitute.
