Here is a statement from the board in regards to Gym Naming request:
On behalf of the Marshall County Central School Board, we would like to thank Greg Hestekind and John Rokke for their request and thank everyone who took time to share thoughts on the gym naming proposal. The comments reflected deep pride in our school and were shared thoughtfully and respectfully.
Our district has benefited from many dedicated educators, coaches, volunteers, and supporters over the years, and we remain grateful for the ways individuals are recognized through the Hall of Fame, Wall of Honor, and Education Foundation.
After careful consideration, the Board has chosen not to name the gym court after an individual. This decision reflects our responsibility to steward public spaces that belong to all students and families. It is grounded in governance and long-term considerations, not in judging the value of any individual, especially Ron Ueland who dedicated a long career to serving the MCC Community.
In the future, the board policy committee may take time to review and establish policies that should be in place before considering requests of this type.
The school board appreciates the continued support and engagement of our community.
