Tonight's boy's basketball game vs. Ada has been canceled. We were not able to reschedule the game. Cheer on our Girls Basketball Team as they take on WAO in the section playoffs Thursday, February 29 at 7:45 p.m. at Northland College in Thief River Falls. Our Boys basketball team will be in action for their first playoff game on Thursday, March 7. Location and opponent to be determined. We'll post as soon as seeding is completed on Saturday.

Reminder: Boys Basketball Game vs. Ada is scheduled for a 4:30 start time tomorrow. Varsity is the only game on the schedule. We made the change, due to it being Minnesota Caucus night. Kindergarten Freeze Hoops is scheduled for half-time. (Incoming weather is a concern. We'll post an update on our website/Facebook page and send an alert out if there are any weather related announcements).

MCC Reminder: Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday and Wednesday this week. Monday Conferences are from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Conferences are from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. School will dismiss early on Wednesday. Viking dismisses at 12:00, Newfolden Elem. at 12:20, and MCC High School at 12:30. When you visit for conferences please check the lost and found at each school. We have lots of items that have been left behind and need to be claimed.

Congratulations and Good Luck to our E-Sports Team. We have one individual and one team that earned a trip to the Fenworks State Competition in Grand Forks. Ayden Sweigart qualified to participate in their Chess Tournament. The team of Blake Nelson, Evan Richards, and Noah Eggerud qualified in the game Fortnite! The team left today to begin the competition! Wish them luck!

Help us by celebrating bus driver appreciation day!! We have a great crew of bus drivers at MCC. Last year our drivers logged 173,224 miles driving our students safely to school and activities! It's a big job and our drivers care deeply for the students they transport. Thank you for the commitment to drive and helping our kids get to and from school safely!!

*Stop for School Buses* We have seen an increase in stop arm violations the past two weeks. Please make sure you stop 20 feet away from a school bus when the red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended. Please stay stopped until lights stop flashing and stop arm is pulled back in. We also ask for extra caution in the mornings when dropping off on the west side of elementary school and in the high school bus loop. Buses use stop arms in this stop. Please follow buses, stop and wait behind them while they unload. Drop off when it is your turn. Do not pass a bus with red flashing lights and stop arm out.

Attention. The boys basketball game vs. Ada Borup - West on February 27th will be Varsity only with a 4:30 start time. The change is because this date is the Minnesota state caucus night and we can not have any school related activity after 6:00 pm.

We are proud to share High School Science Teacher Katie Melgaard is one of the 159 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Candidates! This is the 60th year of the Minnesota Teacher of the Year awards. In March a committee will narrow down the group into a list of semi-finalists. The state will name the teacher of the year on May 5 at a banquet in St. Paul. We are very proud of Mrs. Melgaard! MCC Families, I am writing to update you on an incident that occurred today at Marshall County Central High School. A student was overheard making a threat of violence directed at another student. School staff immediately contacted local law enforcement and officers began an investigation. No weapon was found and police do not believe the threat to be credible. The individual who made the comment is now in police custody. We do not believe there was an active threat to students at any time today. However, we take situations like this very seriously and will issue the appropriate disciplinary action, per school district policy. Due to our legal obligation to maintain student confidentiality, we cannot share further details at this time. We appreciate the quick response of the Marshall County Sheriff's Department officers today. We also encourage our students to continue speaking up if they see or hear anything that could constitute a potential school safety issue. It's Paraprofessional Recognition week across the state of Minnesota! We are proud of our paraprofessionals at MCC! Our paras support our students and our school in so many ways: one on one student support, small group support, teacher assistance, preparing for the day, watching over bus area in mornings, breakfast/lunch supervision, playground supervision, after school support, our Freeze Kids program, and helping work at activities after school! Help us recognize our terrific team of paraprofessionals!!

MCC High School Building Project Update (1/19): High School: The high school classrooms are getting sheetrock installed. This picture shows a couple of the rooms and a portion of the hallway. The kitchen area had the ground thawed. The orange in photo is large blankets. Plumbing will be installed in the kitchen area next week (1/22-1/26). HVAC work is being completed in the gymnasium area.
