1-11-2021 MCC Families, We are very excited to announce we will begin transitioning our students back to school more consistently next week as positive & active cases have dropped significantly and have been remaining stable in the area. Attached to this letter you will find a new calendar for the remainder of January. Please discard the old calendar and make sure you use the calendar that says UPDATE for the remainder of the month. We will have students in grades 5-8 follow the same schedule as K-4 coming four days a week starting January 19. There will be no school on January 18 as this is a designated in-service day for the district. Students in grades 9-12 will remain in two groups one more week with group 1 attending Tuesday, Jan. 19 and Wednesday, Jan. 20 and Group 2 attending Thursday Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan 22. Starting January 25, Grade 9-12 students will join the four day a week schedule attending all four days school is in session that week. There will be no school on January 27. The Head Start and Preschool calendar does not have any changes. Please have your Head Start/Preschool child come on their designated days. Meals: We posted links on the COVID-19 Page on our Website for you to sign up for meals. Week of January 19-22 takeout meals will be offered each day. Week of January 25-29 we will be moving to only offering meals on Wednesdays. We will continue to use our alert system to send notifications/texts to send out reminders. Thank you for remaining understanding and flexible throughout this school year. We are excited that we can begin to transition the students back to school more consistently. Please continue to follow all recommendations regarding safety. Stay home when sick, wash your hands frequently, maintain social distancing when out in the public, and wear masks indoors in public areas and with people not from your household. If you ever have any questions about whether it is okay to send your child to school, please call our school office and office staff or Nurse Julie can assist you.

Northern Freeze Basketball Families and Fans: Regarding Fans attending basketball games. When games are played in Newfolden or Karlstad there will be 2 fans per athletes household allowed to attend the game. We will not know the guidelines for away games until we hear from those schools AD's a week or so before playing. Before every game Mr. Taylor and Mr. Longerbone will be sending a form to our athletes to inform us who will be attending the game. These forms will be sent to the athletes school email account. If you have any questions please call either Marshall County Central High School or Tri-County School.

MCC Parents (1-05-2021) I want to share an information update with our families as the Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health have provided some updated guidance and requirements for schools. You may have seen news coverage during the holiday break regarding transitioning students back to school, rules regarding activities, and new safety rules. Transition Plan: Please continue to follow our January calendar we shared prior to break this week and next week. There has been significant improvement in the number of COVID cases in our area. We have seen reduced numbers of families and students that have had to quarantine. Things are moving in the right direction. We will spend this week and next week to monitor our data to see if there are any surges from the holidays. We are beginning some transition planning to get our 5-12 group in school more days like the younger students. We have a board meeting discussion planned during our organizational meeting on January 7 and will follow up with a leadership team meeting on January 13. After those meetings, we will send out an announcement via our alert system, website, and Facebook for any changes to the remainder of January. Health Rules: The state made some updates in its Safe Learning Plan. We found that many of the new rules required by the Department of Health and Department of Education, we already had in place. We want to notify and share information about adjustment to face covering rules. Face Coverings must be worn when engaging in indoor physical activity. For us this would include indoor recess and indoor physical education classes. All of our sports programs will require participants to wear masks. The state is following updated guidance by the Minnesota Department of Health and the American Academy of Pediatrics. We are required to follow state mandates. Your children have done well with wearing masks indoors and will help them make this adjustment. For athletics, our coaches and student athletes have noted that face masks made by Adidas/Reebok work the best for PE/Athletics. They are soft, breathable, and fit well. They come in a size small (for children 12 and under) and size M/L for children over 12 and adults. They come in 3 packs for $20 and can be found on their respective websites or on Amazon. If you have any health related concerns about new regulations we ask that you contact Nurse Julie. The state has not clarified exceptions at this time, but Nurse Julie can listen to your concerns and do her best to help. She attends statewide nurses meetings each week and gets helpful information that may help address your concern. Sincerely, Jeffrey Lund Superintendent/Elementary Principal
