The school district welcomed a brand new bus #7 to the transportation fleet today! This bus replaces the 1997 International Bus #7 with over 230,000 miles. New bus 7 is a Blue Bird gasoline model and will be used as a route bus for the area east of town, Holt, and Holt area. On another transportation related note Bus Driver Appreciation week is coming up: February 21-27. We are very proud of our bus drivers, substitute drivers, and Adam for all they do to get our kids to school and home each school day!

2/10/2021 Dear Families and Staff, We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that a member of the MCC School community has tested positive for COVID-19. It is possible the person was able to spread the disease while in the community on 2/4/2021. We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the person. At this time, they have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease. We have worked with MDH to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and have told them directly to stay home and/or to work from home for 10 days, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test during that time. This is how long it can take to show signs of the disease. If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do. Because the spread of COVID-19 from unknown sources is widespread in Minnesota, you should continue to watch your child for COVID-19 symptoms, which include: Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, New cough or a cough that gets worse, Difficulty/hard time breathing, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Nasal congestion/stuffy or runny nose, Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, Muscle pain, Extreme fatigue/feeling very tired, Severe/very bad headache, or Chills. If your child gets symptoms, they should stay home and you should talk with their doctor or other health care provider to decide if they need to see a doctor and/or to get tested for COVID-19. We understand that this news may make people feel uneasy. We have taken action to clean and sanitize the building and are working closely with MDH to watch the situation. We are asking all members of our community to lower the chance of spreading illness by taking the following actions: Protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering, Wash your hands often with soap and water, Cover your coughs and sneezes; do not touch your face with unwashed hands, If you are sick, stay home from school, child care, sports, and other activities, Clean all commonly touched surfaces often, such as telephones, doorknobs, countertops, etc. If you have questions, contact Nurse Julie, jdahlman@mccfreeze.org. Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe. Jeffrey Lund Superintendent/Elementary Principal Julie Dahlman MCC School Nurse

Please continue to click on links sent via app notification, text message, and Facebook alerts to sign up for Wednesday meals. The link is also available on our Webpage by clicking on COVID 19 Information. We remind families to use Wednesdays to contact teachers if your child needs additional help/support or has fallen behind and needs assistance to help them catch up. Everything has been working well for our students involved in activities. So far we have started High School basketball, Freeze Hoops, Robotics, and Musical practice. We have also started elementary band class and held our annual spelling bee. Our safety protocols have been working well. For basketball, we have a process for sign ups so parents can attend games. Our opponent schools provide information ahead of time which makes things easier for everyone. For those that are not allowed to attend games, we are hosting games held at MCC and Tri-County on the NFHS Network. There is no cost to view games hosted at our home sites but you do need to create an account on their app or webpage to view home games. We will post information on where to watch games online as soon as our opponents share the information with us. Some are hosted on Facebook, Youtube, and the NFHS network. We will continue to monitor the health situation in the county and within our school. The last week of February we will post our March calendar. We are hoping to add school on Wednesdays starting in March so it is crucial for everyone to continue to follow all recommendations regarding safety. Stay home when sick, wash your hands frequently, maintain social distancing when out in the public, and wear masks indoors in public areas and with people not from your household. If you ever have any questions about whether it is okay to send your child to school, please call our school office and office staff or Nurse Julie can assist you. We would like to express our appreciation and thanks for all our families understanding and patience. We know COVID 19 has made things very challenging for everyone. Your efforts and willingness to make adjustments work have helped our school staff immensely. Thank you for supporting our school staff and helping your children understand how important it is to work together. Jeffrey Lund Superintendent

1-11-2021 MCC Families, We are very excited to announce we will begin transitioning our students back to school more consistently next week as positive & active cases have dropped significantly and have been remaining stable in the area. Attached to this letter you will find a new calendar for the remainder of January. Please discard the old calendar and make sure you use the calendar that says UPDATE for the remainder of the month. We will have students in grades 5-8 follow the same schedule as K-4 coming four days a week starting January 19. Students in grades 9-12 will remain in two groups one more week with group 1 attending Tuesday, Jan. 19 and Wednesday, Jan. 20 and Group 2 attending Thursday Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan 22. Starting January 25, Grade 9-12 students will join the four day a week schedule attending all four days school is in session that week. There will be no school on January 27. MCC Parents (1-05-2021) I want to share an information update with our families as the Minnesota Department of Education and Minnesota Department of Health have provided some updated guidance and requirements for schools. You may have seen news coverage during the holiday break regarding transitioning students back to school, rules regarding activities, and new safety rules. Transition Plan: Please continue to follow our January calendar we shared prior to break this week and next week. There has been significant improvement in the number of COVID cases in our area. We have seen reduced numbers of families and students that have had to quarantine. Things are moving in the right direction. We will spend this week and next week to monitor our data to see if there are any surges from the holidays. We are beginning some transition planning to get our 5-12 group in school more days like the younger students. We have a board meeting discussion planned during our organizational meeting on January 7 and will follow up with a leadership team meeting on January 13. After those meetings, we will send out an announcement via our alert system, website, and Facebook for any changes to the remainder of January. Health Rules: The state made some updates in its Safe Learning Plan. We found that many of the new rules required by the Department of Health and Department of Education, we already had in place. We want to notify and share information about adjustment to face covering rules. Face Coverings must be worn when engaging in indoor physical activity. For us this would include indoor recess and indoor physical education classes. All of our sports programs will require participants to wear masks. The state is following updated guidance by the Minnesota Department of Health and the American Academy of Pediatrics. We are required to follow state mandates. Your children have done well with wearing masks indoors and will help them make this adjustment. For athletics, our coaches and student athletes have noted that face masks made by Adidas/Reebok work the best for PE/Athletics. They are soft, breathable, and fit well. They come in a size small (for children 12 and under) and size M/L for children over 12 and adults. They come in 3 packs for $20 and can be found on their respective websites or on Amazon. If you have any health related concerns about new regulations we ask that you contact Nurse Julie. The state has not clarified exceptions at this time, but Nurse Julie can listen to your concerns and do her best to help. She attends statewide nurses meetings each week and gets helpful information that may help address your concern. Sincerely, Jeffrey Lund Superintendent/Elementary Principal
